A grooved large chest, cedar (or juniper), grooved decoration filled with black mass (gall nut) "Imaginary animals and plant motifs", iron mounts and hinges, Portuguese - Azores, 16th/17th C., missing original socle, restoration, non-original base, minor faults and defects, interior showing signs of having had a pigeon hole. Notes: vd. "Do Mar e da Terra... Uma História no Atlântico". Angra do Heroísmo: Angra do Heroísmo Museum, 2011, p. 54; and "PMobiliário Português - Roteiro - Museu Nacional de Arte Antiga". Lisbon: Portuguese Institute of Museums, 2000, p. 44. This type of chest was studied in FERRÃO, Bernardo - "Mobiliário Português - dos primórdios ao maneirismo - volume quarto - Anexos".
